Adolph M.D. Castellino our Counsellor & Psychotherapist has been running our Counselling Centre since August 2006. He is a professionally trained, qualified and experienced Mental Health Practitioner with 12 years of experience as a Therapist. He is also a Therapist with many reputed organizations in Goa viz: the Government College–Khandola, the YMCA – Campal, SSVP–St. Inez & Rotary Club of Panaji Riviera.
Adolph Castellino works collaboratively with clients to identify and understand where they are blocked in their lives and what they might need to think, feel, and act in ways that are more congruent with who they feel called to be. His integrative therapy understands the paradox that authentic change begins with practicing curiosity and acceptance of ourselves exactly as we are including those parts of ourselves or our experiences that we would most like to ignore or banish. In therapy, he helps clients move at their own pace toward this goal, appreciating that the very symptoms that cause distress are positively interpreted as messages about aspects of their lives that need attention and care.
Albert Schweitzer wrote, that “Each patient carries his own doctor inside him…. We are at our best when we give the doctor who resides within each patient a chance to go to work.” Counselling is a similar process that assists the Client in becoming self-aware and self-develop towards handling the challenges they face. Effective counselling does not necessarily take a long time. Research shows that at times, clients feel they have received the help they need in just a couple of meetings.
The general public tends to view counselling as a remedial function and emphasizes immediate goals, such as problem resolution, tension reduction, and the like. However, the goals of counselling are appropriately concerned with such fundamental and basic aspects such as self-understanding and self-actualization. These help provide the client with self-direction and self-motivation. Counselling in its spirit and essence is generative. It aims at assisting the individual to develop such that he becomes psychologically mature and is capable of realizing his potentialities optimally.
Our Counselling Centre provides a safe, trusting & comfortable space in which to explore any issues you are experiencing in your life with our Therapist Adolph Castellino who will guide you in a caring and non-judgemental way. In the counselling or psychotherapy sessions you can explore various aspects of your life and feelings, talking about them freely and openly in a way that is rarely possible with friends or family. Bottled up feelings such as anxiety, depression and grief can become very intense and talking therapies offer an opportunity to explore these feelings, with the possibility of making them easier to understand. At some time in our lives most of us face a major crisis. Sometimes it is hard to talk to those closest to us and we feel isolated and alone. Counselling offers an opportunity to explore and understand the experiences that have shaped our lives, and discover ways of living more resourcefully. It can help people improve their relationships, both personal and work related. They might include:
